We take over existing software even when there is no documentation and no contact person left. After 30 days it runs with runbooks, monitoring and an SLA.
- Access and inventoryDays 1 to 5
- Risk reportDays 6 to 10
- Runbooks and monitoringDays 11 to 20
- Trial operationDays 21 to 30
Why clients come to us
- The only developer has left, and the knowledge left with them.
- The agency no longer answers or keeps the access.
- The vendor is insolvent, but the software is still in production.
In all three cases nobody knows how the system runs or is responsible for it. That is the part we take over.
The 30 days
Every takeover has the same four phases.
- We take over the access, record what runs where in which version, and look at the backups.
- We check the end of support date for each component. Security findings go into a risk report, together with an action plan. If there was a Legacy Check before, we build on it.
- We write the runbooks and set up monitoring and alerts. Then we restore from the backup once as a test.
- In trial operation the first patch window runs as a test, we rehearse the escalation, and we sign off the SLA together with you.
On day 30 the SLA begins, and from then on the response time of your service level applies. From that point we look after your system with Lobster Legacy Care.
Move the mouse over a step or tap it. The step before and the one after stay highlighted.
What you have on day 30
- an inventory of servers, services, versions and dependencies, each with its end of support
- runbooks for operations, so the knowledge no longer depends on one person
- monitoring with alerts, including for jobs that fail silently
- a passed restore test as proof that the backup can be restored
- a risk report with an action plan, so you know what to do next and in which order
What we need from you
- access to servers, repositories, hosting accounts, domains and DNS, where they exist
- contracts with the hosting provider, agency or vendor, so we know deadlines and responsibilities
- the right to change the source code. If that is unclear, we sort it out before we start.
Which systems we take over
We take over applications in PHP, Java, Node.js and Python on Ubuntu, Debian or AlmaLinux, with the databases in the Legacy Care scope. We do not take on Windows Server, .NET Framework or desktop software.
